Background Information

Thailand has the concentrated large agricultural rice farm land, apart from the high costs of farm chemicals, farm owners face rising production costs; it is increasingly hard for them to hire cheap labor to do the hard work of harvesting on the farm

Another big problem is the workforce. Rice farmers are now aging. The hard work under the scorching sun with little return does not attract young people. In the face of frequent droughts from global warming, rice farmers in Thailand need to shift to sustainable agriculture to reduce water usage. The yield per acre has been stagnant, even declining, due to the lack of research and development to improve rice productivity and quality. Therefore, Thailand needs to find a more cost-effective, environmentally friendly way to grow rice

In order to support local tourism and let local communities earn additional income, Thailand Interior Ministry has issued a regulation to allow properties with fewer than 10 rooms and no more than 30 guests to be exempted from hotel registration. Under this policy, local tourism accommodations can be set up easier with much less cost
