The Project Background - What Problems We Were Trying To Solve
- Humans consume at least 50 billion chickens a year. In order to make chickens grow more quickly and ensure that they do not get sick during the breeding process (normally in a 45-day growth cycle), farmers often add excessive antibiotics directly to conventional feeds and auxin, half of the global antibiotics are used in animal husbandry. Eating chicken with residues is just one of the ways in which people ingest these antibiotics.
- There are many free-range chickens on the market, all claiming to be free-range broilers in the wild, but usually they cannot provide credible evidence, nor can manufacturers provide strong evidence, consumers can only judge by taste.
- Traditional free-range chickens are free-range in the wild. Due to the existence of many uncertain factors such as the growth environment, the health of chickens cannot be controlled.
- After ordinary chickens are released , they must pass through farmers, chicken traders, slaughterhouses, and then to first- and second-level wholesalers and retail terminals. The profits of chickens are exploited by middlemen at various levels, and in the end, very little money ends up in the hands of farmers. In order to get more money, farmers can only continue to reduce the cost of raising chickens, thus causing the growing environment of chickens to deteriorate, which seems to be a vicious circle.
Why Blockchain Technology Can be Implemeted In This Project
The use of blockchain technology combined with the other smart farm technology for chicken raising is to take into account the following points:
Chickens are not large. Consumers will buy a whole chicken most of the time, while pigs, cattle and sheep can only buy part of it. Naturally, it is impossible to prove which part this part belongs to.
The size of the chicken is convenient to wear the corresponding blockchain anti-counterfeiting equipment, and the breeding environment of the chicken is relatively simple, and it does not affect the normal operation of the equipmen
The Technology Implemented
- Internet of Things: The technical equipment of the Internet of Things and sensors can monitor the overall environment of the farm and the living conditions of the chickens, including the temperature, pollutants, soil, water quality, etc. of the chicken farm. At the same time, by wearing a device (foot ring- IoT ID Card - Chicken Card) on the chicken feet, the chicken's life trajectory and daily movement have also become quantifiable data.
- Blockchain: The growth cycle of free-range chickens is as long as 166 days. Based on the extremely high stability and reliability of blockchain technology data, the data from IOT will be automatically uploaded to the blockchain to realize the whole-process traceability of chickens, from the breed of chickens, growth environment, growth trajectory, slaughtering data, to the consumer's table and other information will be recorded on the chain
- Artificial intelligence: There is enough information on the traceability chain to form a huge free-range chicken growth database. By analyzing these data, more valuable guidance information can be analyzed for scientific chicken raising in the future, so as to realize the production quantitative model Connected with breeding management system and shed environmental control system
